The Sonoma State University Chamber Singers (Music 323) is an ensemble of 20-25 singers dedicated
to the performance of Medieval, Renaissance and early Baroque music. In addition,
the group occasionally does projects which feature contemporary music. Founded
in 1991, the group has performed the work of such composers as Guillaume de
Machaut, Johannes Ciconia, Josquin des Pres, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina
and Claudio Monteverdi.
During the fall of 2006, the Chamber Singers prepared "The Triumphs of Oriana", featuring the greatest of the many madrigals included in Thomas Morley's publication of the same name, and selections drawn from "Il Trionfo do Dori", the Italian model for Morley's collection. The group's spring 2007 concert series featured English sacred music, including William Byrd's "Mass for Four Voices".
Auditions are held at the beginning of each academic year. Any slots which open up mid-year are filled at the beginning of the Spring semester. We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7-9:40 PM, in Ives 119 on the SSU campus in Rohnert Park.
